Fungus, Candida albicans, SEM


Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Candida albicans, a common yeastlike fungi usually present in mucous membranes of the mouth, intestinal tract, vagina and on the skin of healthy people. Such infections are known as candidiasis which is characterized by pruritus, a white exudate, peeling and easy bleeding. Diaper rash, vaginitis and thrush are common manifestations of candidiasis. Magnification = x2,500 at 35mm.
