Mycobacterium tuberculosis

SEM: bacteria: Mycobacterium tuberculosis is an acid-resistant, malleable immobile, red-shaped bacteria. The tuberculosis pathogens travel through fluids to the lung alveoli where they are taken up by macrophages. Macrophages do not dismantle the bacteria, instead, the bacteria multiply within the macrophages, as tuberculoid granulomas. Symptoms: fever, weakness, weightloss, possible attack of the kidneys, nervous system, bones, and joints. The infection can be treated with chemotherapy. Vaccination in toddlers has also been successful. Magnification = 10,000x.
