SEM: Zoology: Protozoa: Amoeba proteus: An amoeba ia a protozoan, whose cell plasma is not surrounded by a solid envelope or membrane. As their scientific name, Amoeba, suggests, they constantly alter their shape by stretching out the plasma into foot-shaped appendages (pseudopods). With these "feet", they move themselves toward and encircle food particles. Amoeba proteus is 0.2-0.5 mm and feeds on bacteria and ciliates. Magnification = 420x
