Marburg viruses


Marburg viruses causes marburg virus disease (green monkey, vervet monkey disease). Filovirus group member. They are similar in appearance to, but antigenically distinct from, the ebola virus. First outbreak in Marburg 1967 (7 people died). Cases occured in Africa. The virus cause illness in monkeys resembling that in humans. Symptoms: haemorrhagic fever, diarrhoea, and skin rash.
