Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the parasite Plasmodium falciparum, cause of malaria. Extra flagellate of gametocyte visible, thrusting between two erythrocytes. Main area of Plasmodium distribution is the 23 degree C summer isotherm. Transmission via amopheles mosquito, incubation time: 7-12 days. May cause death if untreated. Disease signs: dizziness, headache, high fever. Magnification: 5.300x.
