Schistosoma mansoni, a parasitic species of trematode worm that cause liver and gastrointestinal tract disease in humans, often leading to schistosomiasis. The adults live in the urinary or mesenteric blood vessels, shedding eggs which pass to the outside in the urine or faeces and sometimes become lodged in and obstruct the blood flow in the liver.
