Genetic medicine

Gene therapy symbol. Computer artwork of a gene mutation and a symbol depicting gene therapy to correct this defect. At center is a spiral segment of the molecule Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA), winding its way up a wand. This is a modified caduceus, the symbol of medical care which traditionally shows a snake winding up a wand. In the background are letters representing the nucleotide bases that make up the genetic code. These are A (adenine), T (thymine), G (guanine), and C (cytosine). A mutation in the DNA code is represented in red. Mutations or hereditary genetic disorders are implicated in many diseases. Gene therapy aims to correct such genetic defects.
