MRI brain scan

Human brain. Colored magnetic resonance image (MRI) scan showing a side-view of a healthy human brain. This cut through the brain shows its major regions. At top are the extensive convolutions of the cerebrum, where intelligent thought processes occur. The cerebellum (lower center right, blue) is part of the hindbrain which coordinates muscle movement. Beside it (at lower center) is a bulge, the pons; it is part of the primitive brainstem that connects with the spinal cord (lower frame). MRI imaging is a diagnostic technique that uses radio waves (free of harmful radiation) to provide cross-sectional or three-dimensional images of organs or structures within the body.
