Human brain. Computer-enhanced image of the human brain, in side view. The front of the brain is at far right. Surface folds and convolutions of the right cerebral hemisphere occupy most of the image. The cerebrum is the largest and most developed part of the brain, responsible for conscious thought, memory, sensation and movement. At lower center is the temporal lobe of the cerebrum responsible for hearing, smell and taste. Behind and beneath the cerebrum (lower left) is the smaller cerebellum. This region of the hindbrain is rounded, folded, and comprises about 11% of brain weight. The cerebellum is concerned with posture, balance, and coordination of movement.
