Red and white blood cells

Red and white blood cells. Illustration of red blood cells (erythrocytes red) and white blood cells (leucocytes pale pink & purple). Red blood cells are biconcave disc-shaped cells which transport oxygen around the body. Their red color comes from the oxygen-carrying protein hemoglobin. White blood cells are active in the body's immune response to infection.
