The pain is centerd on the hips (center left and right) and the lower back (upper center). Arthritis of the hips is usually osteoarthritis a disease of the joint cartilage that is associated with changes in the underlying bone. It is associated with mechanical wear and most commonly affects the elderly. The condition can be extremely disabling. Treatment includes taking painkilling drugs, but a hip replacement can also be performed, which replaces the damaged bone with durable implants.
