Tuberculosis. Colored chest X-ray of the lungs of a 31 year old female patient suffering from tuberculosis of the lung. The upper lobe of the lung (red, at left) is affected showing opacities (green). Healthy lung fields are black; the heart is at center. Tuberculosis is a disease in which the lungs develop dense opacities marking the infected sites. This infectious disease is caused in humans by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The infection is passed from person to person in airborne droplets. Symptoms include coughing, fever, chest pain and shortness of breath. It is diagnosed by chest X-ray and sputum tests and is treated with antibiotic drugs.
