Breast cancer

Breast cancer. Colored mammogram (x-ray) showing a cancerous tumor and breast tissue. Inside the breast is healthy fibrous tissue (blue) which serves to support glandular structures. A dense mass of tumor (red) is seen. Most breast cancers arise in the mammary ducts and the remainder in the lobular glands. Mammography is a special x- ray technique used to examine soft breast tissue as a means of locating breast cancer in women. It enables early diagnosis of cancers leading to more effective cure rates. Treatment for breast cancer is based on surgical removal and anticancer drugs.
