Bald eagle


Bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) in flight. This large eagle is the national bird of the USA. The name "bald" does not imply a lack of feathers, but is derived the work piebald, which means "marked with white". Adults achieve this white plumage when they are 4 years old. The bald eagle has a length of 75-110 cm and wingspan 188-210 cm, the female being larger than the male.
