Epistylis protozoa

Light micrograph of Epistylis sp. protozoa. Epistylis is a genus of sessile, or sedentary protozoa. Long stalks anchors their heads, each of which contain a mouth surrounded by cilia hairs. The hairs create a vortex in the surrounding water, washing food particles into the mouth. Dark field light micrograph 40x at 35mm.
